What a pleasure it was to build this vacation home for a soon to be retired couple planning to call Lake Norman their full time residence. The goal was to build an efficient, cost effective yet spacious and functional home while still meeting all the needs of their expanding future family of grandchildren. The objective was to design and capture the elements of a true lake cottage with rooms that flowed from one to the other in the main living area to allow ease for the family and capture the tranquility and peace of the water from every room. Soft grays, blues and beige carry the coastal theme throughout again telling the story of a relaxing vacation and inviting you to sit and enjoy the water.
Exterior elements were carefully considered to stay in line with the Lake Cottage theme by using natural stained cedar shake, stone, hardi-plank and brick in varying shades of gray and beige. Using the different textures creates an interesting dynamic for the façade. Energy efficiency was kept in mind by using spray foam insulation and installing a sealed crawl space. Upon entering the front door you are welcomed into a warm cozy interior with wide plank hardwood floor in a dark brown stain, wainscoting and soft gray shade on the walls. Beyond the foyer and dining room is an open flow into the spacious family room with a stone fireplace flanked by built in bookcases, coffered ceiling and large windows that capture the water views from every angle. The master retreat just off the family room features a full wall bay window and barn doors leading into the master bath. The master bath has wide-plank herringbone tile, soaking tub, custom cabinets and a frameless shower enclosure. The wall tile features white subway tile in a brick pattern to again continue the flow of a cottage home. This open floor plan allows ease and functionality while the family room continues into the kitchen featuring custom white cabinets with glass doors and shelving. The tile backsplash is a beveled edge white subway tile and the granite is Super White with a swirling mixture of gray and white. The kitchen is all in keeping with the cottage design and the custom island with soft blue-gray color completed with a brown glaze. All the modern efficiencies are here with the stainless appliances and the stainless pendant lights over the island top off the coastal theme. From the kitchen you can step onto the screened in porch featuring French pattern Mocha travertine tile and stone fireplace with the amazing water views makes this a perfect spot to enjoy your morning coffee. The oversized covered deck off of the screened in porch is yet another area to relax and enjoy the lake.
